Action against abortions held in central Krasnodar

Within the framework of the international action "STOP Abortions", an action "For the life of unborn babies" was held in Krasnodar on May 29.

The Zhukov Mini-Park of the territorial capital brought together representatives of the Orthodox Church, public activists and volunteers. They handed out leaflets and broadcast footage from a documentary film about infanticide to passers-by.

It was announced at the event that the number of abortions in Krasnodar is twice the number of births; while in total in Russia every minute 11 unborn babies die from abortion, the STRC (State TV and Radio Company) "Stavropolye" reports.

"The action, held upon blessing of Father Isidor, Archbishop of Ekaterinodar and Kuban, on the eve of the Children's Day, was not only on the problem of hazardous consequences of abortion, but also on the benefits of pregnancy in view of the current demographic crisis in Russia," the "Yuga.ru" quotes the spokesman of the Department for Youth Affairs of the Administration of Krasnodar.

According to the city public health department, in 2010 in Krasnodar the birth rate exceeded the death rate for the first time in the last fifty-five years. In 2010, the birth rate was thirteen and the death rate was twelve cases per one thousand of population.

In 2010, the city maternity hospitals saw about 17,000 births, while the number of abortions went down. The infant mortality and mortality in capable age went down by 8.8 percent and 2.4 percent respectively. In general, last year the Krasnodar Territory had 45,600 newborns, the "Arguments and Facts" writes.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July 2008 the Krasnodar Territory held an action "Week without abortions", during which activists managed to dissuade 338 pregnant women from taking this step.
