Press Secretary of Dagestani President rejects law violations at ordering wristwatches

The wristwatches are intended not for bureaucrats but for awarding on special occasions and memorial dates of law enforcers, athletes and scientists for special merits to the republic, Rasul Khaibullaev, press secretary of the president of Dagestan, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"This is a common practice; and not for the first year such gifts are presented to the people who have special achievements for the benefit of Dagestan. Nobody made any secret of it; the watches bear an inscription "From the President of the Republic of Dagestan", each of them has its own serial number. As prescribed by the law, the order was posted on the website of state procurements," said Rasul Khaibullaev.

As for the price, according to his story, 20,000 roubles for a watch is not a huge sum. "You shouldn't present 'From the President of Dagestan' a cheap watch with Chinese mechanism inside. It should be a high-quality and beautiful gift for the whole life," said the President's spokesman.
