Women residents of Volgograd will join the all-Russian hunger-strike

Several mothers in Volgograd whose children cannot attend kindergartens because of the lack of places will join the all-Russian hunger strike on May, 20. This is already the seventh hunger strike held by mothers like them residing in other regions. 

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that a twenty-three-year-old single mother Marina Zuriaeva went on an open-ended hunger strike having got no response from the authorities to her requests to accept her child in a kindergarten.

On May, 20, women activists of the movement " Accessible pre-school education for Russian children" will hold a picket in Volgograd. They will gather in Komsomolskaya square in front of the Central bank to express their protest against the authorities for the reason of nonfeasance of the municipal, regional and federal institutions responsible for pre-school education and its provision, "Volgograd-times" reports.

The major demand of the participants of the picket is to ensure free places in kindergartens for everyone by 2013 and work out and adopt a Federal Program of returning old buildings for kindergartens and building new ones by this June. Besides, the participants are going to demand to provide compensations to the parents who bring up their children at home, increase the tutors' salaries up to the average level in the region, stop the practice of compaction of the groups and provide sufficient financing of the kindergartens.

Several women of Volgograd intend to take part in the all-Russian hunger strike. Last time they held such an action of protest in the local office of KPRF, this time they are going on a hunger strike in a building of an accomplished but tenantless and not yet transferred to the municipal balance kindergarten in the Central district.
