Detainee Tigran Postanjyan in Armenia went on a hunger strike

Tigran Postanjyan who is in prison "Nubarashen" went on a hunger strike protesting against the prison conditions. According to Postanjyan, 18 prisoners are kept in a cell of 25 square meters, the people sleep in turn and it is impossible to observe elementary rules of hygiene in the cell.

Tigran Postanjyan's hunger strike resulted in an investigation in the Parliament of Armenia. Stepan Safaryan, leader of "Heritage" parliamentary group, sent messages to Ombudsman of Armenia Karen Andreasyan, Minister of Justice Grair Tovmasyan and Chief of Armenian police Alik Sarkisyan reporting that Tigran Postanjyan, brother of the deputy of the same group Zarui Postanjyan, who has been in custody for 86 days had gone on a hunger strike as a sign of protest "against inhuman and humiliating treatment in a penalty executive institution "Nubarashen".

"The prisoners have to sleep with their clothes on because of plenty of biting insects. The bites of the insects cause a grave form of allergy and the use of chemicals for struggle against them, in its turn, makes breathing in the cell of 25 square meters impossible", Stepan Safaryan wrote demanding to take measures to stop this outrage".

Zarui Postanjyan, in her turn, reported the situation to the Council of Europe, "Novisti Armenia" reports.

It should be reminded that Zarui Postanjyan is a member of Armenian delegation in PACE and has investigated beating up journalist Pashinyan in prison. "Heritage" group insists that criminal prosecution of Postanjyan is illegal and caused by his sister's political activities.
