Terek

Rayon (sector) centre in Kabardino-Balkariya, 59 km east of Nalchik. Located in Ciscaucasia, on the flat right bank of the Terek River. Railway station (Murtazovo) in the Prokhladnaya - Beslan - Gudermes line. Population (1992 est.) 17.8 thousand, (1979 est.) 12.1 thousand.

City since 1967. Present Terek has a diamond tool plant, a cannery, a winery, etc.; an elevator. An agricultural centre - crops of cereals (winter wheat, corn), technical crops (sunflower, ambary, etc.) and feed crops; dairy cattle-breeding, sheep-breeding, horse-breeding.
