In Dagestan, local resident confirms sale of meat of dead animals

A local resident has revealed the details of sale out on April 29 of meat of the bull-calves, which died from drug against mites. The meat was bought by meat wholesalers, who took the dangerous foodstuff to marketplaces. The Russian Federal Service for Consumer Supervision ("Rospotrebnadzor") has forwarded a request to the Prosecutor's Office.

The "Caucasian Knot" was earlier informed on condition of anonymity by one of the workers of a farm, located near the village of Druzhba, the meat of dead animals was sold.

According to Abdurakhman Umarov, the farm, where, according to preliminary information, more than 80 heads of cattle died, is one kilometre off the farm named "Nine Houses" where he lives. On that day, when the farm had a cattle loss, he was approached by two newcomers from the village of Vikhli, who asked to show the way to the farm. One of them was a butcher. "When we arrived at the farm, one Gazel van was already loaded with carcasses. Another van was waiting. Twenty carcasses had been already butchered," said the local resident.

According to Umarov, the animals died after they were sprayed at high pressure by watering hose from a barrel with a solution against mites. In all likelihood, the drug dose was too high, and the animals began dying immediately. According to the source, they managed to slaughter some of the animals. Then the owners butchered the carcasses, telephoned to traders, and sold them the meat at 60 roubles per kilo.

The source said that a similar incident happened two years ago.

Nurmagomed Myatov, acting head of the Dagestani "Rospotrebnadzor", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the fact is checked; and a request was forwarded to the prosecutor's office.

Let us note here that on April 21 in the Krasnodar Territory, two female workers of the city hospital canteen in Armavir, aged 27 and 47, addressed doctors with symptoms of anthrax and were hospitalized. Later, the diagnosis was confirmed. According to preliminary information, the woman got infected when cutting carcasses.
