Sheikh Kurman Ismajlov complained of law enforcers' actions to Prosecutor's Office

In the Stavropol Region, Sheikh Kurman Ismajlov was not detained and nor abducted; he was at the local Prosecutor's Office - writing a complaint against actions of power agents. This was announced by his advocate Rasul Kubanov.

Let us remind you that on April 28 a search was conducted in the apartment of Kurman Ismajlov in Kislovodsk, in the course of which power agents discovered some substance, resembling an explosive." Ismajlov denied any involvement in the finding. Today, his lawyer Rasul Kubanov said that Ismajlov had disappeared.

"Ismajlov wasn't detained; he switched off his phone for some time, fearing that he might be shadowed; he had valid reasons to fear abduction. Tonight Ismajlov went to the Prosecutor's Office, waited until it opened and filed a complaint against the police," Kubanov explained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to Ismajlov, at night, in his absence, law enforcers began breaking the door of his apartment. "The power agents motivated their actions by saying that the investigator who had taken part in the search was inexperienced and made a wrong protocol, which should be corrected. For this purpose they arrived at midnight and frightened all the children!" said Kubanov.

Ismajlov filed an extensive complaint about misconduct of policemen, having mentioned that in the course of the search some object was planted into his flat resembling an explosive.

At the moment, according to Kubanov, another advocate went to Ismajlov. "The motives for such attitude of law enforcement bodies to Kurmanov are unclear. He is absolutely far from extremism and doesn't let any radical groupings even come up to him. He worked officially for the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the European Russia; he was a rector of the mosque. All the time he tried to work within the official environment," added the lawyer.

"The main motive for the intrusion of power agents to him is that he and his wife are adherents of the radical Islam. Kurman is doing everything to protect himself by legal means; but I don't know whether he will be successful now," said Kubanov.

The Pyatigorsk UVD (Interior Department) said that they had not heard about the case and advised to contact the FSB. The press service of the FSB for the CMWs (Caucasian Mineral Waters) told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that until a person was formally arrested they made no comments on any investigatory actions - searches and the like.

"We report to the press about achieved results. With regard to the today's statement of the RIA 'Novosti' that plastic explosive was found in Kislovodsk, we have no data about it; moreover we can say nothing about the connection of this event with the theologian Ismajlov," said the representative of the press service of the FSB Department for the CMWs.
