In Tbilisi, Armenian Diaspora holds protest in front of Turkish Embassy

On April 24, the Community of Armenians in Georgia held a protest rally under the slogan "We remember and fight for justice!" in front of the Turkish Embassy in Tbilisi. The action was attended by about 600 persons, who demanded to recognize the Armenian genocide of 1915.

"We gathered here with the aim to protect our rights and fight against the Turkish policy of denial of the Armenian genocide," Armen Agadjanov, Chairman of the Armenian Students' Association of Georgia (ASAG), said in his speech.

The rally also heard some unusual demands. For example, one of the organizers demanded from local Armenians not to travel on holidays to Turkey, the Radio Liberty reports.

Samvel Mkrtchyan, Chairman of the Community of Armenians in Georgia, found it important that young people are active participants in the struggle for Hay Dat (Armenian issue).

The protest action, held for several years in a row, was for the first time attended by a representative of the Georgian Eparchy of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

On April 23, a traditional torchlight march took place in Tbilisi, the "News-Armenia" reports.

Let us remind you that on April 10 the Georgian Armenians addressed the President and the Parliament of Georgia asking them to recognize the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening of April 23, a march took place in Yerevan dated to the anniversary of Armenian genocide, during which the youth burnt down Turkish flags. Besides, a memorial rally was held in Moscow; and a torchlight procession was organized in Nagorno-Karabakh.
