After attempt, Sultan-Girei Khashagulgov fears for his life

The former Deputy Minister of Construction of Ingushetia Sultan-Girei Khashagulgov, who received serious injuries as a result of an attempt on him, fears for his life.

The injured Khashagulgov, who is now in a Moscow hospital told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent: "When they detained Issa, we traced his whereabouts with the help of advocates; but at some point we lost him. Advocates made inquiries to the SIZO 'Lefortovo' and to Vladikavkaz - all was useless," he said. "And then I went to Bekkhan Atigov, Secretary of the Security Council of Ingushetia. I told him that we wanted to know where our brother was; if in order to receive this data, we need to raise people to a rally, we'd do it on Monday. This rally will be not against the head of Ingushetia Evkurov, but for getting information about our Issa."

According to Khashagulgov, Atigov promised to speak to Evkurov and call back. "And indeed he did it. He asked me and Issa's wife Pyatimat not to go anywhere and not to take any steps. He assured that within two or three days we'd know where Issa was. We believed him. And on Sunday, April 10 - a bomb was triggered against me," said Sultan-Girei Khashagulgov.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Yakub Khashagulgov, Sultan-Girei's younger brother, that the explosion was so powerful that ruined the fence door and the yard gate. "The car, naturally, is beyond repair," he said. "It's a miracle that my brother survived; the bomb exploded some five feet away from him."

Currently, Sultan-Girei's face, hands, stomach and back are full of fragmental wounds. He finds it difficult to breathe and speak. "He has a contusion and impaired hearing," said his daughter Maryam. "His jaw is badly damaged; but surgery cannot be done yet, because a lot of blood has accumulated in the lungs. They do anaesthetic injections to him all the time. His condition is grave."
