Opposition to rally on April 28 in Armenia

As devised by the organizers, the next protest action, which should become the final attempt to seek dialogue with the authorities, will be held by the Armenian opposition on April 28. This was announced today at a rally by Levon Ter-Petrosyan, former President and the leader of the Armenian National Congress (ANC).

As earlier reported by the "Caucasian Knot", today a sanctioned rally of the ANC was held in Yerevan. The several thousand strong rally brought together protesters from different cities and regions of Armenia. A call was announced there to begin preparations for a civil disobedience campaign to be held all over Armenia.

At the end of the rally, Levon Ter-Petrosyan expressed hope, when speaking in Freedom Square, that the authorities would still fulfil - till the next opposition rally scheduled for April 28 - the three minimum requirements of the ANC.

"Should the authorities fail to fulfil our three requirements, the ANC will have - finding the path to dialogue exhausted - to drastically change its tactics and the nature of actions. We still don't want to talk with the authorities in the language of ultimatums; however, there is a limit of people's patience. April 28 should either start a dialogue between the opposition and the authorities, or mark the final 'watershed' between the authorities and the society," said Levon Ter-Petrosyan.
