Ecological protest rally held in Tuapse

About 100 persons came on April 9 to the sanctioned rally in Tuapse in protest against the work of the Limited Liability Company (LLC) "Tuapse Bulk Terminal", which is reloading mineral fertilizers.

The protesters demanded to hold a referendum on placement of the terminal of the "Evrokhim" Company in the resort city, to ban oil drilling in the Black Sea, to build a garbage recycling plant and to close the landfill of solid domestic and industrial wastes.

According to Radio Liberty, the action, initiated by the local branch of the "Yabloko" Party and the public organization "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus", was attended, by various sources, by 100-500 persons.

"The rally was attended by about 100 persons, while the public order was guarded by over militiamen; no violations of public order were fixed," the RIA "Novosti" quotes Igor Zhelyabin, head of the press service of the GUVD (Chief Interior Department for the Krasnodar Territory), as saying.
