Mayor's Office of Yerevan prohibited everyday meetings of the opposition in Svobody (Freedom) square

Mayor's Office of Yerevan once again prohibited the oppositional party Armenian National Movement (ANM) holding everyday meetings of the opposition in Svobody square for the period from April, 20, till April, 24.

ANM which is part of Armenian National Congress (ANC) submitted to Mayor's office an application of holding meetings in Svobody square from April, 21, till April, 24 inclusive and a procession routed Svobody square - Mashtots avenue - Amiryan street - Republic square - Nalbandyan street - Tumanyan street - Svobody square.

"Plenipotentiary of Mayor's Office prohibited the meeting in Svobody square explaining that other actions had been planned in the square from April, 21, till April, 24, and on the following days", "Novosti-Armenia" quotes a report of Press service of the capital's Administration.

At the same time ANM party received a suggestion to hold its meeting in a territory near the Institute Depository of ancient manuscripts "Matenadaran". The application for holding a procession was taken into account.

Besides, Yerevan Mayor's Office did not authorize the meeting of Armenian National Congress in Svobody square on April, 20.

On regarding the application the Mayor's Plenipotentiary decided to prohibit the meeting in Svobody square for other actions were planned for that day and the following ones.

Mayor's Office again suggested to hold the oppositional meeting of April, 20, near "Matenadaran" and took into account the application for the procession, Panorama.am reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has already informed that Yerevan Mayor's Office has formerly refused the oppositionists' application for holding a meeting in Svobody square on April, 8. The oppositionists, in their turn, do not rule out that they will ignore the authorities' prohibition of holding a meeting there.

Vaagan Khachatryan, representative of ANC, called the decision of the Mayor's Office fulfillment of a political instruction and found it conceivable that on April, 8, the opposition and the people might come out to Svobody square as they did on March, 17.
