Seven people killed in armed confrontations in Northern Caucasus during a week

In the duration of the week from March, 21, till March, 27, no less than seven people were killed, four wounded and one person kidnapped in armed confrontations in Northern Caucasus. These are figures from "Caucasian Knot's" calculation based on its own materials and other open sources. 

Among those killed there are three suspects of involvement in armed underground, one law enforcement officer and supposedly three civilians. No less than two peaceful residents, one security official and one gunman were wounded.

Six persons out of the seven perished in Dagestan and one in Chechnya. Three out of the four wounded got injured in Dagestan and one in Kabardino-Balkaria.

One explosion, three armed conflicts, two assaults at peaceful residents and one attempt at an official of the bailiff service took place during the above mentioned seven days. The regime of counter-terrorist operation (CTO) was twice established in Dagestan. 

There was an explosion last week in Dagestan. Some unidentified people got into a food store in the village of Malaya Areshevka, Kizlyar district, where they laid and activated two home-made bombs. The building was destroyed but no one was wounded or killed.

No less than three people were killed and one wounded in armed confrontations. All the four are supposed participants of paramilitary groups (PMG). 

One armed confrontation took place in Dagestan, another one in Kabardino-Balkaria and one more in Chechnya. The most severe battle happened in the settlement of Kani, Kuli district of Dagestan. On March, 21, unknown people fired upon an official of the bailiff service who died on-site from the wounding. 

The CTO regime was established in Kani and a private house, where three suspects of the bailiff's murder were staying, was encircled. During the storm two supposed gunmen were killed and the third one escaped.

In a mountain forest near the village of Roshni-Chu, Chechnya, policemen came into collision with gunmen, one of them was killed in the skirmish. A local resident in Chegem district of Kabardino-Balkaria threw a hand grenade into law enforcement officers when they attempted to stop his car but he was wounded and detained. 

Last week there were assaults at peaceful residents in Dagestan. The first episode took place in a café in the highway Makhachkala - Kaspiisk when two unidentified people opened fire, one person perished and two others got wounded. The second assault happened in the village of Matsal-aul, Khasavyurt district, two local residents were shot down in the courtyard of their house.

Besides, a serviceman of Interior Troops of the Ministry of Interior Affairs of the Russian Federation in the village of Gubden, Dagestan, by mistake fired upon a car with his colleague, officer of riot squad. The latter was hospitalized with a slight wound. 

On March, 21, in Ingushetia a resident of Nazran Ilez Gorchkhanov was supposedly kidnapped. The incident happened at Nazran coach station. According to eyewitnesses, there were about 15 kidnappers, camouflaged or wearing civilian attire, all were masked and part of them had armored shields. They set Gorchkhanov into their car by force and carried him away to an unknown place. His relatives think that the crime was committed by members of the top brass.

Last week no less than 52 persons were detained during search of suspects in Northern Caucasus for suspicion of involvement in PMG or complicity in their activities and for participation in an unauthorized meeting of protest against kidnapping as well. 39 detentions took place in Dagestan, ten in Ingushetia, two in Chechnya and one in Kabardino-Balkaria. 

There were mass detentions in the village of Gubden, Dagestan. 36 people in this village were delivered to the police headquarters for a trial for involvement in the underground's activities. They underwent document inspection, dactylographed and released after an "enlightening talk". A man who had had a wanted notice was detained there, too. 

Several suspects of murders of policemen committed on March, 12, and March, 18, in Tabasaran district and Makhachkala were detained in Dagestan. Two young men in Chechnya are accused of supplying gunmen with food: one of them was found in Achkhoy-Martan, the other, according to security officials, came to the District Department of Interior Affairs as self-reported criminal. 

Members of the top brass in Nazran, Ingushetia, in a cruel way dispersed an unauthorized meeting at which the participants moved forward a demand for the authorities to find out the fate of the missing Ilez Gorchkhanov. Ten participants of the action were detained, besides, some of them were beaten up and got severe traumas. In particular, Ali, brother of the leader of local opposition Magomed Khazbiev, was taken to hospital with a frontal bone broken through and closed cerebral injury as a result of beating by security officials.
