Public prosecutor's office of Lithuania demands custody for Egle Kusaite

Lithuanian prosecutor Justas Lautsis, witness for the prosecution of Egle Kusaite accused of preparing an act of terror in the territory of Russia, demanded custody for the defendant for the period of trial because according to him, she has threatened him by means of SMS messages. "Caucasian Knot" correspondent received this information from Lithuanian journalist Thomas Chivas.

Prosecutor Martinas Duda, indictor in Kusaite's case, declared the other day that "some circumstances" had been established which let one think that Egle Kusaite was hindering and would hinder the process in the future by influencing other persons.

"The prosecutors ask to change Egle Kusaite's preventive punishment for arrest because Egle allegedly impedes the investigation. And this is how, according to the prosecutors' version, she does it: she has allegedly threatened prosecutor Justas Lautsis who had started the proceedings and may now be summoned as a witness by SMS messages", Thomas Chivas says.

According to the journalist, the second argument for imprisonment is "even more fantastic": Egle allegedly has contacts with the the Magmadovs on the phone (Kusaite's acquaintances, natives of Chechnya, Apti and Aishat Magmadova, accused of complicity in terrorism and organizing paramilitary groups - note by "Caucasian Knot") who are in "Lefortovo" prison at the moment. As a proof they offer the fact that she has contacted Apti and Aishat's mother Tamara Magmadova on the phone", Chivas said.

According to Thomas Chivas, Keshtutis Stungis, Egle Kusaite's attorney, will study the materials of the case on Monday, March, 28.

"There is one more detail: the structure of the court chamber has changed. One of the judges who was taking part in the trial has been replaced. Kusaite can now once again submit the petitions of open court, unification of her case with the Magmadovs' one etc. refused before. This is just what she is going to do in the nearest future", Thomas Chivas said to "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
