Azerbaijani opposition supports attacks of international forces on Gaddafi's troops

Activists of the Azerbaijani oppositional forces support the actions of the international armed force aimed to enforce the Resolution of the UN Security Council on protection of the civilian population of Libya against attacks of the troops loyal to the regime of Muammar Gaddafi.

"Gaddafi is one of those dictators, who have lost their sense of reality and ability to properly react to events. He continues committing atrocities against his people, while it is obvious that he has no chance to preserve his regime," said Isa Gambar, leader of the "Musavat" Party.

Ali Kerimli, leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) finds the military intervention of international forces in Libya too late. "The system of international response to such cases of mass violations of human rights is imperfect," he said.

He believes that "the UN Security Council should be criticized not for adoption of the resolution, but for this late step." "In particular, the countries, which had hindered the adoption of the resolution, should feel their responsibility. Because of this protraction, maybe hundreds or even thousands of Libyans lost their lives," Mr Kerimli has added.

He said that some people in Azerbaijan link the military intervention in Libya with oil interests of the West and thus want to create a false opinion in the society. In his view, "such steps are aimed at discrediting the ideas of democracy, which make an alleged pretext for the West to promoting its interests in the oil-extracting countries."

It proved impossible to receive any comments of the official Baku comment on the latest developments in Libya, since Azerbaijan has days-off on the occasion of the spring holiday Novruz-Bairam.

As stated on March 21 by Agasalim Shukyurov, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Libya, the staff of the Azerbaijani Embassy is going to leave this country at the earliest opportunity, the "Trend" reports. According to the Ambassador, now the staff of the Embassy has four persons, including himself. All the Azerbaijani citizens have already left Libya.
