Seven persons killed in armed confrontations in Northern Caucasus during a week

No less than seven people were killed, eight wounded and two kidnapped in armed confrontations in Northern Caucasus during the week from March, 7, till March, 13. This is the result of counting done by "Caucasian Knot" based upon its own data and information from other open sources.

Five suspects of involvement in armed underground, one employee of enforcement agencies and one peaceful citizen are among those lost. No less than six security officials and two deputies of local government bodies were wounded. Two persons were supposedly kidnapped by members of the top brass.

During the above mentioned seven days six explosions, three armed conflicts and two attempts at deputies occurred. On March, 8, a powerful bomb was found and neutralized in the town of Buinaksk, Dagestan. Large-scale police and military forces were brought into Nozhai-Yurt mountainous district, a regime of counter-terror operation (CTO) was established there on March, 10.

Three explosions took place in Dagestan and three in Moscow last week. There were no victims. In Dagestan there were explosions in Buinaksk, near shops in Lenin street, at the crossroads of Shamil and Gamzatov streets and under the locomotive of a cargo train, not far from Shamkhal railway station. In the capital of Russia explosions happened near the Academy and a departmental dwelling house of Federal Security Service. One of the web-sites supporting Chechen gunmen reports that the subversive act near the Academy of Federal Security Service was committed by the "shakhid brigade "Riiad-as-Salikhiin" upon the order of leader of the Caucasus Emirate Dokku Umarov. Investigators state that the explosions and the bombs in all the three episodes in Moscow were practically identical and were most probably committed by the same persons.

No less than four people were killed and six wounded in armed conflicts in Northern Caucasus last week. All the victims were supposed gunmen and the wounded were security officials. One armed confrontation took place in Kabardino-Balkaria, another one in Dagestan and the third in Ingushetia.

Two battles occurred during detention of suspects of involvement in armed underground. In particular, three supposed gunmen in the village of Shalushka, Chegem district of KBR, put up resistance during detention, wounded two law enforcement officers and were killed. A suspect in Malgobek district of Ingushetia started skirmish and perished, too. The third battle took place in the suburbs of the capital of Dagestan: four policemen got wounded during an attempt of inspection of the car they had stopped.

At night of March, 12, an unidentified man opened fire at colonel Magudin Urdikhanov, senior operative agent for cases of particular importance of the Ministry of Interior Affairs in Dagestan near the village of Khapil, Tabasaran district of Dagestan, "for the reason of a suddenly sprung up quarrel". The police officer died.

Representatives of the authorities also underwent assaults. Two attempts of this kind were committed in Dagestan. Zapir Isaev, deputy of Municipal Assembly of Kaspiisk, got wounded in Makhachkala and Alibulat Gasanov, deputy of Kaitag District Assembly of the republic, nominee as candidate for the election to People's Assembly of Dagestan from CPRF, was wounded, too. His brother who was by his side at the moment of the attempt was killed.

Last week at least three persons were detained for suspicion of participation in paramilitary groups and complicity in their activities. All the detentions took place in Chechnya, all those detained are accused of delivery of food stuff to gunmen during the period from 2003 to 2009 and "rendering other services" to the underground. They were residents of the villages of Sariye Atagi, Grozny district, Gansol-Chu, Nozhai-Yurt district and Guni, Vedeno district.

Besides, two men, Said Sigauri in the capital of Chechnya and Rustam Kurbanaliev, resident of the village of Sultanyangiyurt, Kizil-Yurt district of Chechnya, were kidnapped. Said disappeared on the day when his brother declared gunman was killed during a special operation in Grozny. It happened yet on March, 2, but the human rights activists who became aware of Said's disappearance made the information of the crime public last week. Rustam Kurbanaliev, according to an eyewitness, was captured by armed and masked people. Police officials deny the fact of these people's detention.
