In Georgia, prosecution demands seven years in prison more for Tsotne Gamsakhurdia

At the trial, the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has demanded a total of 15 years in prison for the son of the first Georgian President Zviad Gamsakhurdia - Tsotne, claiming to add seven years more to the existing eight-year sentence on the basis of accusations of an attempt to bribe an employee of the prison hospital with 274 US dollars.

Now, prosecutors want to add seven years for this bribe to the remaining Tsotne's term, the "Georgia-Online" reports with reference to his advocate.

According to investigators, Tsotne wanted to receive information about violations of human rights in the prison hospital for 500 laris (equivalent to the above sum in dollars).

Tsotne's defence demands not to consider the evidences, presented in support of new accusations against the son of Georgia's first president. As stated by his advocate Keti Bekauri, the evidences in the form of audio and video records at disposal of the prosecution party are illegal.

According to the advocate, this was the reaction of the authorities to Tsotne's attempt to "raise his voice in defence of convicts," the IA "News-Georgia" reports.

Tsotne Gamsakhurdia himself rejects his guilt and regards himself to be a victim of political repression applied by the authorities.
