Azerbaijani SC upholds sentence to Garisov, resident of Dagestan

The Supreme Court (SC) of Azerbaijan has upheld the sentence passed by the court of the Kusar District to Usman Garisov, a resident of Dagestan on charges of contraband and drug use. He was sentenced to four years in prison.

It was back on July 19, 2010, that the Kusar District Court of Azerbaijan sentenced Garisov to four years of minimum security colony. In late August, his defence appealed against the verdict.

"The trial was chaired by Judge Ali Seifeliev. Within 5 minutes, in the presence of our advocate, read out the decision, which upheld my brother's verdict," Umar Garisov, convict's brother, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He said about his intention to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). "Maybe there the innocence of my brother will be confirmed," he said.
