Swedish capital to hold rally on February 23 dated to deportation of Chechens and Ingushes

On February 23, Stockholm will host a rally of Chechen (Vainakh) refugees, organized by the Swedish-Chechen Committee (Johan Lagerfelt) and dedicated to the 67th anniversary of deportation of Chechens and Ingushes. According to the organizers, they were pushed to hold the action by the recent situation, associated with the attitude in Scandinavian countries to refugees from Chechnya.

Let us remind you that on February 23, 1944, Chechens and Ingushes were deported en masse to Kazakhstan and Middle Asia.

The main topic of the rally to take place in Mynttorget Square, Gamla Stan, from 12:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., is to voice protest against a large number of "negations" (denial of asylum, - note of the "Caucasian Knot") issued by the Migration Board in Sweden to the Chechen refugees, seeking asylum in this country.

"In order to get out of the critical situation, the representative office of Chechen refugees in Sweden will bring to discussion a range of proposals, including rallies and marches in front of the Russian Embassy in Sweden; since Russia is responsible for oppressing Chechens and for the fact that 0.25 million Chechens occurred outside their homeland. The representative office of Chechens in Sweden invites all the Chechen and Ingush refugees to attend the upcoming event, regardless of whether they have citizenship, residence permit or not," runs the statement of the organizers of the event.

According to the authors of the appeal, "a vast majority of Chechen refugees deported to Russia will surely be persecuted, tortured, and may disappear."

According to one of the organizers of the rally, who preferred remaining anonymous, not only Chechen refugees plan to take part in the upcoming rally.
