Explosion in Georgian mine kills one person and injures four

Today at night, one person was killed and four others injured in an explosion in the coal mine in Tkibuli (Western Georgia).

The injured miners were taken to a Tbilisi hospital; their health condition is satisfactory. According to preliminary reports, the explosion was caused by leakage of methane, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

This is not the first incident at the mine named after Mindeli located in Tkibuli. The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 27, 2010, seven persons were injured there by an explosion. Earlier, on March 3, the mine also exploded killing four miners; another one was seriously injured.

  • Court releases Malgobek law enforcers accused of extortion

    Three policemen from Ingushetia, accused of using violence against a detainee and extortion, have been released. The Supreme Court (SC) of Ingushetia has explained that the period specified by law for the preliminary investigation had expired and their further detention is illegal.
