Picket against civil rights violations held in Sochi

Today in Sochi about 50 persons came out to hold another protest action against violations of citizens' rights by local authorities.
The picketers held placards with slogans: "Governor, remember, you work for people, not for President!", "Olympiad should not be force majeure for Sochi residents!", "Thieves should be in prison - authorities should work!" and "Olympstroy, drink the sea!" and others.

Officials from the administration of the Tsentralny District were watching, together the militia, the observance of public order during the action.

According to lawyer Roman Shikarev, organizers of the picket, "the authorities have not approached and never offered any solutions to the problems highlighted in the posters." "But if they fail to hear us - the local and regional authorities," he said, "we'll speak still louder about the city problems at all levels, until they start reckoning with opinions of Sochi residents."

Mr Shikarev has noted that initially the picket was planned in defence of city greenery, parks and boulevards, against increased utility tariffs and chaotic city build-up. "However," said the organizer of the action, "other people have joined with their problems that they expressed on their posters."
