An exhibition of modern art "North-Caucasian biannual festival" will be arranged in Dagestan

An exhibition of modern art "North-Caucasian biannual festival" will pass off from April, 22, till June, 22, 2011, in Kaspiisk, Dagestan. All the modern forms and tendencies in art will be represented at the exhibition: painting, graphic arts, sculpture, theatrical decoration art, photography, photo and video installations, performance.

According to the organizers, the main purpose of the first project "North-Caucasian biannual festival" is establishing personality and creative communications among the artists of Northern Caucasus, integration of cultures, creation and strengthening new artistic traditions.

"While in the Soviet period there existed firm creative communications, since the change of political system, ideology, socio-political situation in Russia and the region, creative contacts within Caucasian republics have decreased up to minimum and there is almost no information of creative development. The young generation of artists who started their creative work in the beginning of -90's has not gone beyond the territories of their republics, they had no information of each other, could not learn from one another and communicate", Jamilia Dagirova says.

Over 50 young and active authors living in Dagestan, North Osetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Chechnya, Ingushetia, Adygeia, Karachaevo-Cherkessia are expected to take part in the exhibition project "North-Caucasian biannual festival".

"Taking into consideration a complicated and not always impartial image of Northern Caucasus through art we well not only be able to protect ourselves but also, which is no less important, realize who we are today and what the reasons of our problems and the basis of their solution are", Jamilia Dagirova thinks.

The term of submission requests for participation in "North-Caucasian biannual festival" lasts till February, 1, 2011. Any works of modern art created within two last years may be presented for participation in the project.

Art Gallery of modern arts "First Gallery" and non-governmental organization "Museum of modern arts" are organizers of "North-Caucasian biannual festival".
