In Georgia, refugees ask Subari to set committee to protect their rights

The internally displaced persons living in Georgia sent a letter to Sozar Subari, the former Georgian Ombudsman and now the leader of the "Georgian Party", with a request to create a coordination office and a committee for protection of refugees' rights.

"Given the position of the government of Georgia, we hereby ask you to create a coordination office and a committee for protection of refugees' rights, and we want you to head it," runs the refugees' letter addressed to the leader of the "Georgian Party".

The refugees state that they perceived positively Mr Subari's activities in the position of the Ombudsman; therefore, they addressed their request to him, the "News-Georgia" writes.

Sozar Subari said at today's briefing that he agreed to the request and is ready to form such a committee. In this regard he suggested cooperation to political parties and NGOs, the "Georgia Online" reports.

The leader of the "Georgian Party" has also noted that he condemns any brutal and inhumane treatment of refugees and demands from the authorities to promptly find some way out of this situation, for example, to stop the forced eviction of refugees, carried out by Tbilisi authorities. According to Mr Subari, the resettled refugees live in tents for 75 days already.
