In Dagestan, veterans of Afghan War put off their hunger strike

Some 120 persons took part in another picket held in Makhachkala by former soldiers of the war in Afghanistan. At a later meeting with state officials veterans decided to postpone their hunger strike until a meeting with the president of the republic.

Let us remind you that veterans demand apartments and improvement of housing conditions.

After the picket, leaders of regional organizations from 14 districts of the republic went to the office of the Dagestani Republic's Organization of the Russian Union of Afghan Veterans. There, they had over the four-hours-long negotiations with Ismail Efendiev, Minister of Labour and Social Development of Dagestan.

Also there, by results of voting, veterans decided not to start their hunger strike today, and wait for the president of the republic to come from Moscow. If Magomedsalam Magomedov meets them and reports the results of his talks in Moscow towards solution of their housing problems, they will stop their protest action. If the meeting fails, 28 Afghan War veterans are ready to go on hunger strike since December 29.
