17 militants killed during special operation in Chechnya

According to Ilya Shabalkin, a spokesman of the regional headquarters on the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus, 17 militants were killed in Chechnya during a special operation.

"A terrorist camp was found during a special operation near the village of Serzhen-Yurt," Shabalkin said. He added, "In the course of the clash 17 militants were killed. Federal troops did not suffer any losses."

Ilya Shabalkin noted that several gangs under Shamil Basayev and Abu al-Walid's command are known to be in that region. A search for the militants is being conducted.
