Militiamen accused of tortures in Rostov region are under investigation

An investigation is in process in Rostov region concerning the militiamen accused of using tortures against a suspect. For the benefit of the investigation concrete information on the case is currently kept in secret.

"Caucasian Knot" has already reported that criminal proceedings had been started according to clause "abuse of authority with the use of violence" against three operative agents of the Criminal investigation unit of Department of Interior Affairs in the town of Bataiisk who, according to the investigation's data, had wrung confessionary statements out of a suspect.

According to the investigation's version, the militiamen while trying to get confessionary statements out a suspect of a theft of wheels from a car were beating him up and putting a gas mask on his head blocking air access. One of the operative agents was detained on December, 3.

"One militiamen has been detained, two others are only under investigation. They are not trying to escape or hide themselves. By the moment a charge of abuse of authority has been brought against them. It is impossible to tell now whether the person whom they have tortured is guilty or not. Investigation is going on. For its benefit I cannot provide more information yet", Natalya Akhreeva, Prosecutor's Senior Assistant on interaction with mass media and the community told a reporter of "Caucasian Knot".

The representative of the office added that the investigation process had been taken under the control of Public prosecutor's office of Bataiisk.
