"Georgian Times" stopped in Georgia

The decision to close the "Georgian Times" was taken today by the managers of the newspaper. The publication is owned by Malkhaz Gulashvili, leader of Georgian Orthodox radicals.

Nana Gagua, editor-in-chief and founder of the "Georgian Times", explained the reasons for closing the paper by the events around her family, which have told on the objective work of the edition.

According to her story, the main reason was in ideological problems, which hindered the work of the paper. In particular, as she said, "censorship was unacceptable for the personnel, which would be disastrous for the newspaper." Along with that, there was a need to make a financial and marketing restructuring, the "News-Georgia" writes.

Malkhaz Gulashvili supports the decision of his spouse, because he believes that she had no other choice. According to his story, the edition was "covered by the financial crisis caused by economic pressures of power structures," the "Georgia Today" reports.

The authorities' position on this matter is still unknown.
