Dagestan's representative at Russian President Makhachev refutes WikiLeaks on his luxury houses

Five leading media - The New York Times (USA), Le Monde (France), El Pais (Spain), Spiegel (Germany) and The Guardian (UK) - posted materials on their websites, based on data revealed by WikiLeaks. One message is a letter of the US ambassador to Russia, who visited the wedding party of the son of Gadji Makhachev, a State Duma Deputy, in Dagestan. Makhachev refutes the data.

We can learn from the diplomat's report that Makhachev has houses in Makhachkala, Moscow, Paris and San Diego; he moves in a Rolls Royce, and his summer residence in Kaspiisk is a 40-meter tower on columns, where the upper levels "are reachable only by elevator, while the interior hides a "grotto with a huge swimming pool under the floor," the "Gazeta.Ru" writes.

The ambassador sent to the US Department of State his observations about participation of Ramzan Kadyrov in wedding celebrations of Makhachev's son Dalgat. The informant was surprised by the luxury of the wedding ceremony organized by one of the most influential people in Dagestan: "drunken guests threw hundred-dollar banknotes over dancing children; at night they were riding water scooters in the Caspian Sea," while the head of Chechnya presented the newlyweds' with a 5-kilo bar of gold," the portal "Club of Regions" writes.

Gadji Makhachev, currently the Dagestani representative at Russian President, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the information about his son's wedding and his property status posted by WikiLeaks has nothing to do with reality.

"In 2007, the wedding of my son Dalgat took place, where two hundred of my relatives and friends were invited; President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov was not there. The wedding was nothing special: just an ordinary Dagestani wedding party," said Dagestani envoy. He also denied information about his financial status: "I have no houses in Moscow, Paris and San Diego; and I never moved in a Rolls Royce," Mr Makhachev has noted.

Ivan Ninenko, deputy director of the Transparency International Russia and project manager of the "Anti-Corruption Network Cabinet" at the Centre "Transparency International - Russia", is organizing an Internet community to translate WikiLeaks documents related to Russia.
