Opposition intends to upset first session of new parliament

On November 21, President Eduard Shevardnadze set the first session of the new parliament. It is to be held today, November 22, at 16:00 Moscow time. Opposition deputies state they will ignore it.

Eduard Shevardnadze will open the session, then the eldest deputy will address the parliament, and then the deputies will listen to information of the Central Election Commission on the results of the November 2 parliamentary elections.

One of the leaders of the Burdjanadze - Democrats bloc Mikhail Machavariani claimed the first parliament session would not be opened. Members of the Burdjanadze - Democrats bloc, the Saakashvili - National Movement bloc and the Labor Party will not attend the session, Machavariani told journalist. The presence of 157 deputies is required for the first session to be opened.
