In Dagestan, victim reports that militiamen sneered over his religious feelings

Today, Murtazali Adukhov, a resident of Khasavyurt, who is taking his inpatient treatment at the trauma ward of the central city hospital of Khasavyurt because of multiple injuries, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the militiamen who had detained him not only beat him, but made a mockery over his religious convictions.

"In the ROVD (District Interior Division) building, a criminal investigator named Rustam, by using obscene words, initially found fault with my trimmed moustache and beard, saying that Wahhabites do it. Then, after the prayer, he again encroached on my human dignity by saying that I was praying wrongly; therefore, he would never leave alone because of that," said Adukhov.

Then, as he reports, they started beating him tight in the ROVD building. "Rustam started showing me some photos, asking me if I knew those persons; and when I said that I didn't, he started beating me, shouting that he would go on until I remember," said the victim.

He added that the torture was stopped only after interference of a Murtazali's acquaintance.

He said that through all his detention they made him starving and refused to render medical aid.

The victim also spoke about other problems. "In Khasavyurt my relatives insisted that I were inspected for severity of my injuries, but their application for a long time was disregarded. The city medical examiner stated publicly that he would not deal with militiamen, and only after much persuasion he agreed to examine me at hospital," said Adukhov.

Now, he is kept at hospital; and the doctor on duty there told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that his health condition is close to grave: the patient was diagnosed brain concussion and multiple contusions of the body and kidneys.

The victim's father - Sukhabek Adukhov - has already filed complaints to the MIA and Prosecutor's Office of Dagestan, demanding to punish those guilty and promising to reach as far as the European Court of Human Rights in seeking justice. He also said that he did not know where his son's cars and a mobile phone were.

The press service of the Dagestani MIA, and the Kizilyurt ROVD refrained from comments.
