Picketers in North Ossetia point to IDPs' problems and corruption

The participants of the picket, organized today in Vladikavkaz on the initiative of the regional branch of the Liberal-Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), told about problems in accommodation of internally displaced persons (IDPs), corruption and environmental issues.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, the action began today at 11:00 a.m. in Victory Square, where 90 persons gathered, including party activists and a group of IDPs from inland areas of Georgia, who found refuge in North Ossetia in the early 1990s.

"National Unity implies good life and no unresolved problems. When your neighbour is not hungry and has job, then, people really reunion and celebrate happily. But today this is not the case; therefore, we went out here to draw attention to extremely serious problems," said Georgiy Zozrov, coordinator of the North-Ossetian regional office of the LDPR.

He noted that every year some 2-3 housing certificates are allocated to the IDPs. "Thus, the authorities recognize the problem, but this is clearly insufficient, given the huge number of people in need of accommodation; only with the help of the federal budget we'll be able to change the situation and make a difference," he said.

The LDPR activists also drew attention to the problem of corruption. Mr Zozroev has reminded that the project of legal help to drivers is being implemented in the North-Caucasian and Southern Federal Districts (NCFD and SFD). Despite the efficient progress of the project, according to the local LDPR leader, apparent passivity of militiamen and prosecutors is noticeable; they were absent at presentation of the project, although the essence of joint actions is to save motorists from tyranny of various structures, who supervise the traffic.

The participants of the action did not escape the operation of the notorious "Electrozink" Factory. Georgiy Zozrov spoke in favour of stopping it, which, in his opinion, will significantly contribute to better environment.

The rally also addressed the issue of youth policy. In the opinion of Elena Tebieva, a participant in the action, it should get clear and practical outline, and its implementation should take place regardless of one's political affiliation.
