European Union grants civil society of Azerbaijan almost 2 million euros

The Mission of European Union in Baku has announced a competition for participation in two programs supporting civil society in Azerbaijan to the sum of 1,9 million euros.

The first program to the amount of 1,2 million euros is aimed at support of the efforts of civil society on betterment of national legislation and its implementation in the spheres of democracy and human rights. This initiative is also meant for support of human rights activists working in the spheres of civil, political, social, economic and cultural rights and ecologic enlightenment.

The second project to the sum of 700 000 euros is directed to promotion of the efforts and realization of the strategy of steady development. It is also aimed at support of vulnerable social groups, first of all, the poor population of rural regions.

Presentations of the programs will be arranged in Baku, Lenkoran, Guba and Gyanja in November, 2010. The deadline for submission projects for financing for the interested parties is February, 11, 2011, Mission of European Union in Azerbaijan reports.
