Former high-ranking SFD prosecutor sentenced to eight years for fraud

The Serpukhov Court of Moscow has sentenced Senior Adviser of Justice Sergey Abrosimov, former head of the division for supervising inquiry and operational-search activities of the Chief Department of Russia's General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) in the Southern Federal District (SFD), guilty, according to the investigation, of taking huge bribes, to eight years in a minimum security colony.

As previously reported by the "Caucasian Knot", Abrosimov was detained by law enforcers in the afternoon on October 3, 2009 in one of the settlements of the Serpukhov District, Moscow Region.

Sergey Abrosimov was found guilty under the article of "especially large fraud" and "attempted especially large fraud", runs the statement posted on the website of the Russian GPO.

According to investigators, in July-October 2009 Abrosimov received about two million roubles for non-attraction to criminal liability of the head of the Serpukhov Municipal District of the Moscow Region. He was also accused of extorting five million roubles from the above official allegedly for bribing employees of the Investigatory Department of the Investigatory Committee of the Moscow Region not to open criminal prosecution. Right upon receipt of this sum of money Abrosimov was arrested.

  • Court releases Malgobek law enforcers accused of extortion

    Three policemen from Ingushetia, accused of using violence against a detainee and extortion, have been released. The Supreme Court (SC) of Ingushetia has explained that the period specified by law for the preliminary investigation had expired and their further detention is illegal.
