Rally in memory of Anna Politkovskaya in Moscow brings hundreds of people together

From 300 to 500 persons gathered on October 7 in Moscow at the rally in memory of Anna Politkovskaya, a reporter of the "Novaya Gazeta", who was murdered four years ago. The event was attended by many journalists of Russian and foreign mass media.

The rally began at 4 p.m. in Chistoprudny Boulevard, near the monument to Griboyedov. At 4:03 p.m. Moscow time - the moment of Anna Politkovskaya's death - editor-in-chief Dmitri Muratov announced a minute of silence.

For the time of the rally, the militia cordoned off a small mini-park in front of the monument; people could get in through the only entrance with a metal detector, and after inspection of personal belongings. All the people could not squeeze into the cordoned area and stood in a huge crowd up to the nearest metro station, blocking the roadway.

All the speakers were unanimous that "political will of the authorities" is needed to solve Anna Politkovskaya's murder.

The rally listened to the audio address of Anna's mother - Raisa Alexandrovna, who thanked the audience for non-indifference to the memory of her daughter.

No excesses happened during the event.
