In Georgia, commission for studying Gamsakhurdia's death requests materials from Russia

The interim commission of the parliament of Georgia set up to study the circumstances of the death of Zviad Gamsakhurdia, first president of Georgian, is waiting for photo materials from the Russian Prosecutor's Office of the examination, which was held in Rostov-on-Don in 2007.

Zviad Gamsakhurdia died in late December 1993, when he was hiding in Western Georgia, and was buried in the village of Dzhikhashkari. In February 1994, the body of the first president of Georgia was brought, on the request of his family, to Chechnya, where it was buried near the central square of Grozny. In 2007, his tomb was discovered there.

The forensic medical examination of Zviad Gamsakhurdia's remains was held in Rostov-on-Don. In March 2007, the remains were taken away from Chechnya and solemnly reburied in the Mtatsminda pantheon of writers and public figures in Tbilisi.

According to Konstantin Gamsakhurdia, chairman of the commission and son of the first president, the Georgian party has requested photos taken during the examination in Rostov, the IA "News-Georgia" reports.

"We've already sent a request to the Prosecutor's Office of Russia and expect to get a response within a month," said the chairman of the commission.

The commission entrusted to clarify the circumstances of the death of the first national president was set up in the Georgian parliament in autumn 2009.
