The person assassinated today during a special operation in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, was identified as Erlan Yusupov, born in 1987, who was involved in a series of killings of law enforcement officials. This was stated by the Information Centre of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAC).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today in Dagestan, during a special operation in Gogol Street, a suspected member of illegal armed formations (IAFs) was liquidated.

According to the NAC, Erlan Yusupov, also known under his Islamic name of Abuzhafar, "was on the wanted list for involvement in a series of attempts and murders of law enforcers. He was the organizer and direct participant in the murder on September 28 in the city of Izberbash of Ramazan Radzhabov, head of the inter-district department of the centre to combat extremism of the MIA in the Republic of Dagestan, his deputy Omarov and two civilians."

"Since early 2009, Yusupov was a close bond of the earlier liquidated bandit leader Vagabov and a member of the so-called 'Sergokalin Bandit Grouping', headed by a Turkish citizen Abdu-Salam. He was executor of a number of subversive and terrorist acts against objects of power and communication (towers of cellular operators) in the territory of the Sergokalin and Karabudakhkent Districts of Dagestan," the "Interfax" quotes a source from the NAC.

Today in Makhachkala power agents have surrounded a house, where a group of suspects had taken shelter. The counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced in the district.
