Konstantin Kochiev: Western Sahara recognizes South Ossetia

The independence of South Ossetia has been recognized by the Sahara Arab Democratic Republic. This was reported today by Konstantin Kochiev, adviser to the President of South Ossetia, after holding negotiations with the leaders of the ruling party of this African republic.

According to his story, "the issue of recognizing South Ossetia and Abkhazia by the Sahara Republic was put on the agenda back in spring of 2008, and in August 2008 the Republic welcomed Russia's recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The Sahara Arab Democratic Republic has already de facto recognizes the Republic of South Ossetia, although the official documents on recognition and establishment of diplomatic relations have not been signed yet."

Mr Kochiev also said that "there are also prospects in South Ossetia's relations with Algeria." According to his story, Algerian politicians had noted in their consultations with him that "Algeria's support may be important for further recognition of South Ossetia in Africa," the ITAR-TASS reports.
