MIA of Dagestan does not exclude that schoolmaster was killed by religious extremists

Patimat Magomedova, school director in Shamkhal village, who was assassinated on September 23, could fall victim to religious fanatics, since she had tried to forbid wearing hijabs by pupils of her educational institution, said a source from law enforcement bodies of Dagestan.

Let us remind you that last year Rizvan Abusufyanov, a resident of Shamkhal, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent Ahmednabi Ahmednabiev that his daughter was not let to school in her headscarf that she wore under Islamic traditions. Magomedova said, in response to a request to comment the situation, that the school has its charter, where it is written what girls should and should not wear. "Hijab is not a Muslim and not a Dagestanian clothes. I'll not allow advertising Wahhabite clothes at school," she said.

Lawyer Rasul Kadiev expressed hope in his conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the crime had nothing to do with the hijab topic, but added that "this hope is weak." At the same time, he noted that he did not think that the parents of the children who were forbidden to wear hijabs were involved in murdering the schoolmaster, as they try to settle the problem under the law through the institutes of the civil society.

For seeking some way out of the situation, Mr Kadiev suggests to set up a special commission, including representatives of the clergy, authorities and human rights organizations. "We should listen to all the reasons, and, finally to put a full stop in such issues like wearing hijabs in educational establishments, Friday namaz at work and study, and others. These problems refer to adherents of both the traditional Islam and other trends of this religion," said the lawyer.

Let us note here that in some Dagestan villages local churchmen are actively supporting mandatory wearing hijabs by schoolgirls and separate school training of boys and girls.

Thus, a special commission of the Ministry of Education of Dagestan has found out that in Gubden village several hundreds of girls do not go to school at all for religious reasons.
