FSB: over 30 militants liquidated in Northern Caucasus in August 2010

Alexander Bortnikov, head of the Russian FSB (Federal Security Bureau), told today at a working meeting with President of Russia Dmitri Medvedev that the special operations conducted in Northern Caucasus this August resulted in liquidation of more than 30 militants; a number of terror acts were prevented.

"During August, we conducted a number of special operations and operative-combat actions against the bandit underground acting in the territory of Northern. As a result of these efforts, over 30 militants and their leaders were liquidated; huge amounts of firearms and explosives were confiscated," the ITAR-TASS quotes Mr Bortnikov as saying.

  • Court releases Malgobek law enforcers accused of extortion

    Three policemen from Ingushetia, accused of using violence against a detainee and extortion, have been released. The Supreme Court (SC) of Ingushetia has explained that the period specified by law for the preliminary investigation had expired and their further detention is illegal.
