Polish prosecutor's office issues a warrant to detain Ahmed Zakaev

The prosecutor's office of Poland has issued a warrant to detain Ahmed Zakaev, head of the government of the non-recognized Republic of Ichkeria, should he come to the World Chechen Congress, planned for September 16-18 in a Warsaw suburb. Adalbi Shkhagoshev, Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and coordinator of the inter-parliamentary group for contacts with the parliament of Poland, believes that this congress may do much harm to Poland.

Earlier, as the "Caucasian Knot" already reported, Mateusz Martyniuk, press secretary of the State Office of Public Prosecutor of Poland, said that if Zakaev, who is in international search, appears in the territory of his country, he will be detained on the basis of the international warrant.

According to the press secretary of Mariusz Sokolowski, chief police commandant of Poland, "the international warrant obliges all the countries-members of the Interpol to take measures towards detaining the specified person," and that in this case "the Polish prosecutor's office has issued an additional warrant."

"Should Ahmed Zakaev appear in the territory of Poland, he will be detained either by the police or by frontier guards," the RIA "Novosti" quotes Mr Sokolowski as saying.

The above-mentioned Adalbi Shkhagoshev views the forthcoming congress as "a thoroughly devised provocation."

"I think that the place for holding such odious action was chosen not occasionally: in recent months the Polish-Russian relations entered a phase of some renaissance; a lot of disputable issues have been settled; and bilateral cooperation gains momentum. The organizers understand how painful such actions are for Russia, which is suffering from acts of terror; moreover, the organizers have officially advertised participation of delegates of the bandit underground in the congress," Mr Shkhagoshev told the "Caucasian Knot."
