Azerbaijan holds protest actions against Koran burning in USA

On Tuesday, September 14, members of the religious community of the "Dzhuma" mosque in Baku held pickets in front of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Cathedral of Myrrh-Bearing Women in protest against the Koran-burning action committed in the USA.

Ilgar Ibragimoglu, leader of the community, who headed the action, has named the burning of the Koran an act of terror, and those who did it - people having nothing to do with Christianity.

Father Konstantin, press secretary of the Church of Sacred Myrrh-Bearing Women, stated, in his turn, that "those who committed this crime are infidels, who have neither God nor faith in their heart," the IA "News-Azerbaijan" reports.

On that very day, the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan (IPA) held an action on the occasion of the insult to the Koran committed in the USA. Akif Geidarli, head of the party's press service, said that it was an insult not only of the Muslim world, but of all the mankind, the APA Agency reports.

US Pastor Terri Johns was the initiator of public burning of the sacred book of Moslems on the anniversary of the terror act on September 11, 2001; however, later, under public pressure, he gave up the idea.

Despite it, on September 11 two priests in the American state of Tennessee burnt a copy of the Koran each, which caused rough indignation of the Muslim world.

Also in Georgia, the Islamic society "Akhli-Beit" held a protest action in Marneuli against desecration of the Koran in the USA. The action was over 500-persons strong, mainly of natives from Azerbaijan, the "Trend" reports.
