Rostov court satisfies petitions of head of "Young Europe" challenging decisions of prosecutor's office

On September 7, the Leninskiy District Court of Rostov-on-Don held its first session on the case contesting the legitimacy of the decision of the Prosecutor's Office of the Rostov Region, which had announced a warning to Konstantin Baranov, head of the regional branch of the public organization "Young Europe", about inadmissibility of extremist activity.

Let us remind you that Baranov filed a claim against the district prosecutor's office in June this year. He disagrees with the arguments in the warning. The warning was announced earlier this February.

At the first session Baranov put forward a number of petitions (in particular, about acquaintance with a number of documents, on the basis of which the act of public prosecutor's reaction was adopted; they were satisfied, runs the statement of the "Sova" Information and Analytical Centre.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that public prosecutors found crime attributes in Baranov's brochure "Xenophobia and discrimination in Rostov Region in 2008. Report on human rights monitoring". In the opinion of the prosecutor's office, the brochure contains names and telephone numbers of the leaders of the National-Bolshevik Party in the Rostov Region, which in the future may provoke breaking the Law "On Counteracting Extremist Activities", which forbids creation and activities of extremist organizations.

The head of the "Young Europe" has noted that none of Russian laws, including the above Federal Law "On Counteracting Extremist Activities", forbids to publish contact telephones of persons and organizations. Besides, as Konstantin Baranov believes, the warning encroaches on his legitimate interests, as restricts his right to the freedom of disseminating information and damages his personal business reputation and the image of his organization.
