EU Council extends observers' mandate in Georgia

The Council of the European Union has decided to extend the mandate of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia till September 14, 2011. This was reported by the press service of the EUMM.

"The Mission was ordered to watch the observance of the ceasefire agreement of August 12, 2008, by all the parties and to contribute, in close coordination with the UN and OSCE and in accord with other EU's activities, to stabilization, normalization and trust build-up in Georgia, and to present information for improvement of European policy," runs the statement of the EUMM as quoted by the IA "News-Georgia".

The EUMM members started their mission in Georgia from October 1, 2008, after the 2008 Georgian-Russian August conflict. The Mission comprises over 200 unarmed observers from 22 EU countries.
