In Chechnya, public catering stopped for Ramadan

During the sacred Moslem month of Ramadan, all the public catering objects will be closed in the territory of the Chechen Republic. Not all the residents support this decision.

"Ramadan is the sacred month for all believers, when eating is forbidden in the daytime. Nevertheless, some public catering managers have failed to stop their entities at least in the daytime, which is an open disrespect not only for the people who are fasting, but also for the Islamic religion as a whole," said the spokesman of the Chechen Muftiyat.

"Observance of all religious prescriptions is certainly a duty of every Moslem. But fasting is not prescribed to sick people, pregnant women and children. And here they stopped all the cafes and canteens, and all the points where they sold kvass. In my opinion, it is too much. There are people who suffer from diabetes, cardiac problems, ulcers, or have blood tension problems. They need at least water and some food," Saikhan T., a local resident, believes.
