Tenants of burnt-down hostel in Kaspiisk complain of absence of help

The tenants of the burnt-down family hostel of Kaspiisk have lost their housing and property and now live in tents in the street. According to their version, they get no help from the authorities.

The fire started on July 22 at about 8 in the morning. Nobody suffered, but 150 persons, including 46 children, remained without roof over their heads. The fire completely destroyed the slate roof of the building and the second floor. The reasons of the fire are established by a special commission. On preliminary data, the ignition was caused by bad electric wires. The building of the hostel was erected back in 1963.

Irina Kurbantaeva, a resident of the hostel, told today the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the victims received no help from local authorities.

"People live in tents; and nobody ever interested what they eat and in what conditions they exist. Not a single official ever wished to talk to us," said the woman. "My family lost all the property, and we do not know what to do. I'm a doctor; my salary is about 5000 roubles, and we can't afford renting any housing."

On July 22, the administration of Kaspiisk promised that all the victims would be accommodated at the sanatorium-dispensary of the "Dagdiesel" factory.
