Resident of Dagestan asks President to release his brother

Umar Garisov, a resident Karanaiaul village, Kayakent District of Dagestan, has addressed the president of the republic Magomedsalam Magomedov with a request to help to release his brother Usman Garisov, who was sentenced in Azerbaijan to four years of prison for drug contraband and use.

"My brother isn't guilty, but Judge Telman Mamedov from the Kusar District Court of Azerbaijan sentenced him, on the basis of contradicting policemen's evidences, to four years of imprisonment. In my letter I ask President of Dagestan Magomedsalam Magomedov to get into the case and help my brother," Umar Garisov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He also said that he asked the head of the republic to help to extradite Usman to Dagestan and that the action of blocking the Federal Highway "Rostov-Baku" near the city of Izberbash resulted in a meeting with representatives of the authorities.

According to his story, more than 600 persons took part in the protest. "We blocked the highway for three hours. A huge jam formed; I understood the inconvenience for the drivers, but we were forced to somehow express ourselves and draw the attention of the authorities," said Umar Garisov.
