Statement of deputies of unacknowledged Chechen Republic of Ichkeria

On September 30, 2003 deputies of the parliament of the unacknowledged Chechen Republic of Ichkeria promulgated a statement. They claimed that the elections of October 5, 2003 could not be held "on the territory of the sovereign and independent democratic jural state of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria".

The deputies called upon the international community to second their stance on this issue and appealed straight to the international organizations: the UN, the OSCE, the PACE, and the European Parliament, "Do boycott that which conflicts with the statutes of your organizations - elections held by a criminal regime of occupation, with a war going on, in the case in question - on the territory of Chechnya!"

The deputies also stated the issue of making announcement about the impeachment of President of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria Maskhadov on September 5, 2003 had not been discussed with their participation at the sessions of the Parliament of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, hence the resolution on the announcement of the "impeachment" of Maskhadov, which was widely covered in the Russian mass media, had no legal effect. "This traitorous action was carried out by several deputies of the Parliament of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria in order to give semblance of legitimacy to the "elections" of the puppet president on October 5, 2003," reads the statement.
