ECtHR obliges Russia to pay 430,000 euros for kidnapping Chechen residents by Russian power agents

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in Strasbourg has fined Russia by 430,000 euros for kidnapping eight residents of Chechnya in 2001, 2002 and 2005.

Magomed-Salekh and Magomed-Ali Ilyasov were taken away by armed people in camouflage in November 2002 from their home in the Chechen village of Katyr-Yurt. So far, the investigation of their disappearances has given no results, runs the communication of the ECtHR.

Six residents of the Chechen village of Duba-Yurt - Salambek Tataev, Ramzan Dudaev, Yunus Abdurazakov, Shamil, Shamkhan and Shamsudi Vakaevs - disappeared in 2001 and 2005. The ECtHR has studied the circumstances of the cases and concluded that in both cases Russian militaries were the kidnappers, while the missing persons were detained during special operations. It has also ruled that the missing persons should be considered as casualties.

Now, the authorities of Russia shall pay 3800 euros for material damage, 420,000 euros of moral harm compensation and 5000 euros as legal costs.
