Armenian Diaspora in Georgia worries about non-participation of Armenian candidates at elections

The Assembly of Tbilisi Armenians is concerned with the "fact of ignoring the interests of the 86-thousand-strong Armenian community in Georgia" at local government elections to be held on May 30.

Armenian nationals living in Tbilisi worry that the lists of the leading parties of Georgia "have no Armenians among potential election winners," while the list of the party in power has no Armenians at all.

"Our concern is caused not only by the fact that the interests of the 86-thousand-strong Armenian community of Tbilisi were ignored at compiling political lists, but also by absolute ignoring the contribution of the Armenians-residents of the Georgian capital into development of the city and their potentials," says the statement of the Assembly of Tbilisi Armenians, as quoted by the "Georgia Online".

"We are sure that such approach is outside the principles of tolerance typical for our multicultural and multinational city and does not promote any further development of the degree of political and civil participation of ethnic Armenians, thus, accordingly, telling negatively on integration processes," state the authors of the document.

The Assembly called to ignore the party lists in the course of elections, the "PanARMENIAN.Net" reports. At the same time, "while understanding the importance of electing Tbilisi Mayor," its activists called city dwellers to express their civil stand in the course of elections.
