Young man wounded in terror act dies in Stavropol hospital

Askhad Mamyshev, 18, who was injured in the terror act on May 26 at the Stavropol House of Culture, died last night, as reported by the city rescue service. Thus, the death toll of the terror act makes eight persons already.

The explosion took place at 6:45 p.m. on May 26, when about 150 persons gathered in front of the building of the City Palace of Culture in Stavropol, who came to the concert of the Chechen Company named "Vainakh". The explosion killed seven and wounded 40 persons.

Askhad Mamyshev was brought to hospital with heavy traumas and all the time was in the resuscitation ward, connected to an artificial lung device.

According to Sergey Novikov, chief physician of the Stavropol Territorial Hospital, Mamyshev had received traumas incompatible with life. "He had an open brain injury; we managed to cope with main blood vessels, but he had brain contusion and died today in the morning in the resuscitation," Sergey Novikov told the RIA "Novosti".

The ITAR-TASS was informed at the Rescue Service that five more victims are still in city hospitals in grave condition.

As reported by Radio Liberty, so far, the inquiry bodies have not disclosed any concrete versions of the explosion in Stavropol. The earlier assumption that nationalists could commit the terror act was neither confirmed nor refuted officially. Also, rumours about detention of two suspects in Ingushetia were not confirmed.

The Investigatory Committee at the Prosecutor's Office (ICPO) of the Russian Federation has initiated criminal cases against officials of the GUVD (Chief Interior Department) of the Stavropol Territory, who exhibited negligence in preparation for a concert in the local Palace of Culture. This was announced by Vladimir Markin, official spokesman of the ICPO.

Inspectors study five main versions of the terror act: an explosion with the aim to intimidate townspeople and influence local authorities; a crime of radicals aimed against non-Slavic nationals; an interethnic conflict (irrespective of Slavic or non-Slavic origin of its participants); and businessmen's or gangsters' showdowns. The inspectors have held over 150 investigatory and other procedural actions under the terror act criminal case.
